12V basics
Starter 12V Solar Kit Checklist
A small 12V solar kit is not complicated, but it is easy to forget one part. Before buying, map the panel, controller, battery, fuse protection, cable length, and loads.
Core parts
- Solar panel sized for the battery and expected sun.
- Charge controller matched to battery type and panel voltage.
- Battery with enough capacity for the intended load.
- Fuse or breaker protection near the battery.
- Cables and connectors sized for current and distance.
Common budget mistakes
Cheap kits often hide weak points in thin cables, undersized controllers, unclear battery compatibility, or vague connector standards. The lowest sticker price is not always the lowest finished-system price.
This checklist is not electrical code advice. For permanent wiring, roof mounting, grid-tie systems, or high-current battery work, use qualified local guidance.
